About OnlineSMS
OnlineSMS is a free public inbox viewer for temporary phone numbers. Pick a number, use it for a one-time verification, and read the incoming SMS right in your browser. You don't need an account or an app, and it costs nothing.
Why we built this
Almost every app now asks for your phone number before it lets you in. Handing out your real number every time means more spam, more strangers knowing how to reach you, and no way to take it back later.
We kept wishing for a simpler option: a number you could use once and walk away from. So we built OnlineSMS, a place where you grab a temporary number in one click and watch the verification code arrive on the same page. There are no forms to fill in and nothing to install.
The idea hasn't changed since day one: keep it fast, keep it free, and be honest about what public numbers can and can't do.
What We Offer
Three tools, one goal: keep your real number out of places it doesn't belong.
Free Public Numbers
Temporary numbers from 22+ countries with open inboxes. Anyone can read the messages, which makes them great for quick sign-ups and testing, and wrong for anything private.
Private Number Rentals
Need a number only you can see? Rent a private one for verifications and accounts you plan to keep.
Phone Number Generator
Building forms or test data? Generate valid-format numbers for the US, UK, Canada and more. Handy for development and QA.
How It Works
Pick a country. Pick a number. Get your code. Here it is in four steps.
Choose a Number
Any active number works. If one looks busy, take another.
Use It for Sign-up
Enter the number in the app or website that asks for verification.
Read the SMS
Come back to the number's page. The code usually shows up within a couple of minutes.
Key Features
The short version of what you get.
No signup. Open the site and use it. You don't need an email or a password.
Free public numbers. Reading incoming SMS costs nothing, always.
22+ countries. The US, UK, Japan, Brazil and more: pick the region a service expects.
Fast delivery. Most codes land on the page within about two minutes.
Any device. Works in every browser, with nothing to install on your phone or laptop.
Auto-cleanup. Old messages are removed automatically after about 24 hours.
Important Safety Guidelines
Public inboxes are shared. Anyone who opens a number's page sees the same messages. Treat them accordingly.
Never Use For
- ✕ Banking, payments, or crypto accounts
- ✕ Government or work accounts
- ✕ Email recovery or password resets
- ✕ Two-factor codes for accounts you plan to keep
Safe Uses
- ✓ Testing SMS flows during development
- ✓ One-time sign-ups you won't return to
- ✓ Trying a service before trusting it with your real number
- ✓ Apps that insist on a number just to look around
A few honest notes
Messages on public numbers are visible to everyone. That's what "public" means here: there is no way to hide a message once it lands in a shared inbox.
Popular numbers get claimed fast. If a service tells you a number is already taken, switch to another one and try again. That's normal, not a bug.
Some services block VOIP-style numbers or silently filter password-related texts. If your code doesn't arrive, a different number or country usually fixes it.
We refresh the pool regularly, but we can't promise a specific country will have free numbers on a given day. When you need a guaranteed, exclusive number, a private rental is the right tool.
